Leon P. Currier, 73, of Sanford, ME died Friday December 6, 2002 in Boston, MA.Mr. Currier was born on May 7, 1929 in Sanford, ME. It was there that he was raised, and attended schools.For many years Mr. Currier worked for the Sanford Goodall Mills as a weaver. However most people will remember him as the retired Captain of the Sanford Fire Department.For over 27 years Mr. Currier proudly served the residents of Sanford before retiring in 1987. During his time spent as a firefighter Mr. Currier served as president of the Local 1624 Firefighters Union.Mr. Currier was an active man that enjoyed going to baseball games, and playing billiards. He also had a passion for chess and horse racing. Mr. Currier was also an avid stamp collector. Above all Mr. Currier was a true friend to many that enjoyed the company of others. His accomplishments both personally and professionally could not possibly be summed up in such a brief testimonial.Surviving are two sons, Ron Currier of Dallas, TX, Donald Currier of Sabattus, ME; a daughter Rhonda Landry of S. Windham, and four grandchildren; Theresa M. Ferro, Charlotte Currier, Charlene Landry, and Cassidy Landry. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.On Wednesday December 11th friends are invited to attend a 1:00 PM memorial service at the Heald Funeral Home in Springvale, ME.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, c/o Ron Currier, 9319 Chiswell Rd., Dallas, TX 75238.
