Lawrence S. Curit, 72 years old, of Sanford, ME died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mr. Curit was born in Portland, ME on July 6, 1933. He was the son of the late Harland and F. Lillian Small Curit.Mr. Curit was a very loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and special wit that often made others laugh. He was a mechanic by trade, but worked as a truck driver, race care driver, oil tank painter, and mill technician over the years. You could say he was a "jack-of-all trades". He enjoyed camping, fishing, doing home improvements, going shopping and attending auctions with his son, but above all he enjoyed restoring antique vehicles. He was a generous, good-natured man with a big heart and loving spirit.Predeceasing Mr. Curit are his wives Katherine (O'Malley) Curit, Maureen (Grant) Cobb, and two brothers Norman, and Mare Curit.Surviving are his seven children, and their families, Harland Curit and Brenda Johnson of Alfred, ME, Maureen Curit and Beth Spears of Tulsa, OK, Guy Dugas of Tampa, FL, Kathleen Henson and Rick Henson of Stockton, CA, Lynn Curit Smith and Ian Smith of Portland, ME, Annette Lock and John Lock of New London, CT, Kim DeGiacomo and Peter Brulotte of Sanford, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Melba Dow of Springvale, ME, Eloise Pierce of Sanford, ME, a sister-in-law Annette Curit of Sanford, and several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours for Mr. Curit will be held this coming Tuesday, June 20, 2006 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, ME. A 10:00 AM Graveside service will be conducted at the St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford, ME on Wednesday, June 21, 2006.The family requests that memorial contributions for Mr. Curit be made to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102.
