Laurette Y. Gould

Laurette Y (Auger) Gould, 83, passed away after a lingering illness on Sunday, January 16,2011 at the Newton Center in Sanford, ME. She was born August 28, 1927 in Sanford, daughter of Lucien J. and Yvonne (Garneau) Auger. She attended Holy Family and St. Ignatius Schools, graduating with her GED from Sanford High School in 1980. She was member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Daughters of Isabella.Laurette worked in Mill A of the Goodall-Sanford Mills where she met the love of her life Donald E. Gould who had just returned from the South Pacific during WW II. Laurette and Donald married August 31, 1946 at St Ignatius Church in Sanford. They were blessed with one daughter, Muriel.Laurette worked at Goodall Mills until their closure in 1954. She was an accomplished seamstress with a specialty in design and alterations. She later passed on her skills to many workers as supervisor at Aletta Dress Shop in Springvale, ME.After retirement Laurette and Donald spent many winters in Leisureville, Pompano Beach, Florida. She was treasurer of her condo association for 18 years and served on many committees. Laurette enjoyed the friendships she made during her many years in Florida, especially those of her card-playing companions. She will be long remembered for her hospitality, her work ethic, herhonesty and her dependability.Laurette was pre-deceased by her husband, Donald, her parents and two brothers Andre (Andy), and George Auger. She is survived by her daughter, Muriel of Cambridge, MA, and a younger brother Gilles E Auger and his wife Claire, sisters-in-law Nancy Auger and Pauline Landry as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.The family is especially indebted to the staff at the Newton Center and Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassionate care. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Therese of Lisieux, Holy Family Church.Arrangements are under the direction of Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
