Joyce Alma Cote, 71, from Sanford, ME passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 12th, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She had been battling with COPD, a degenerative lung disease, for many years. Joyce was born in Sanford on December 1st, 1951. The daughter of the late Leo Chevalier and Annette Martin Chevalier. She attended St. Ignatius School until 8th grade and then she attended and graduated from Sanford High School in 1970. She attended one semester at University of Maine in Gorham and then left college in order to work to support her mother. She worked at Sprague Electric and Sanford Cable for a short time. Then, she began her 37-year career in radio. She started at WSME in Sanford coordinating radio traffic for the station. Then, she worked for the Portsmouth Radio Group coordinating traffic for that station. After working in Portsmouth, she joined WOKQ in Dover and worked at the station for 23 years. During most of that time she worked as the Business Manager and loved her work in Accounting. She also enjoyed meeting the various Country Music Stars who visited the station and the perks of attending many country concerts with her husband Alan. In 1974, she made her Cursillo with her sister, Leona. The decision changed her life and she and her husband Alan returned to the Catholic Church after that experience. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and enjoyed attending Mass. Joyce loved her family deeply and adored spending time with them. She always had a smile for her loved ones and was a happy go lucky person. All of her nieces and nephews were special. She was like a second mother to her nephews Bob, Wade and Steve and spent a lot of time with them helping to take care of them often. The boys loved spending time with their aunt so much that they would take turns sleeping at her house and going to the beach. Joyce enjoyed many hobbies including listening to music, putting together 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles and she was an avid reader. Joyce also loved animals very much and cherished her pets. Joyce is survived by her husband Alan Cote of 47 years. She is survived by her siblings, Lorraine Chevalier of Sanford and Ronald Chevalier of North Berwick and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Gilbert of Dover, her brother Arthur Chevalier of Sanford and her sister Leona Cote of Springvale.
