Joseph L. Maggio, 85, of Sanford, formerly of Medford MA ; passed away in Sanford at his residence on Wednesday June 1, 2005. He was born in Boston, MA, on February 14, 1920 a son of Lorenzo and Calogera (Barbarotta) Maggio. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign. He was awarded the American Defense Medal, Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Sanford VFW.He is predeceased by one brother, Charlie Maggio. He is survived by his wife, Domitile Maggio of Sanford, three sons, Joseph L. Maggio Jr., and his wife, Denise of Conway, NH, Paul J. Maggio and his wife, Ginny of Sanford, Steven Maggio and his wife, Caryn of Ohio, one daughter, Deborah Stoll and her husband, David of Florida, step daughter, Cecile Giguere and her husband, Norman of Sanford, step son, Richard Guillemette and his wife, Claire of Sanford, four grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, and 13 step great grandchildren, one brother, Giacomo Maggio and one sister, Mary Celi.A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Monday June 6 at 1pm at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Sanford. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Beacon Hospice 54 B Atlantic Place South Portland, Maine 04106 or St. Thomas School Att : Scholarship Fund 69 North Avenue Sanford, Maine 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home 29 Winter Street Sanford Maine.
