Joseph O. Caissie

Joseph O. Caissie, 79, of Springvale, died at his home on Saturday, January 16, 2016 with his family by his side. Joseph was born in Madawaska, ME on December 22, 1936 to Antoine and Ouida Caissie Roy. When he was young his family moved to Biddeford where he grew up and attended local schools. Following school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper. After completing his enlistment Joseph returned home and was employed at General Electric in Somersworth, NH for 11 years and then worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter planner for over 30 years before retiring to spend time with family & friends. In 1962 he married Alma Bergeron and together they raised four children and shared 54 years of marriage. Joseph also attended Nasson College in Springvale, ME. He had been a communicant of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always loved spending time with his family and was particularly fond of his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Joseph was predeceased by a son, Mark Caissie; his parents; three siblings, Albert Caissie, Annette Hebert and Elden Caissie; his father and mother-in-law, Donat and Olive Bergeron and his sister-in-law, Patricia Bergeron. Surviving are his loving wife, Alma Caissie of Springvale; three children, Diane Kich and her husband John of McDonough, GA, Sandra Gray of Springvale and John Caissie and his wife Jennifer of Yardley, PA; three grandchildren, Meagan Gray, Matthew Caissie and Michael Caissie; a sister, Julie Roberts of Alton, NH, brother, Gene Caissie and his wife Brenda of Manchester, NH, sister-in-law, Muriel Caissie of Saco, ME, eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie Desrochers, Richard Bergeron, Paula Malcolm, Elaine Hill, Danny Bergeron, Tom Bergeron, Maurice Bergeron and Helen Bergeron and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 22nd at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment with military honors will be held in spring at St Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford, ME. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes, Sanford-Springvale.
