Joseph Ivan Allain, 78, of Sanford, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford following a long illness. He was born in Sanford, a son of Benjamin and Alice (Robichaud) Allain and lived here all his life.Joe attended St. Ignatius and Sanford schools. An outstanding athlete, he played on the schools basketball, baseball, and championship football teams. Joe remained active in sports, competing in the Sanford Twilight Baseball League into the early '50'sJoe was drafted from high school into the U. S. Army, and became a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division during WWII. He served in the Philippines in Leyte and Luzon and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. He was employed for over 25 years as a quality control auditor for General Electric Company in Somersworth, NH until his retirement in 1987.He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose life revolved around his family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Norma J. (Rodgers) Allain of Sanford; a son, Thomas Allain, his wife Karen, and twin grandsons, Jacob and Joshua, all of Sanford; a brother, Louis Valmore Allain and several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday July 9th in Oakdale Cemetery, Sanford.
