Jorge C. Benavides

Jorge C. Benavides Sr, 71, of Sanford, died on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Jorge was born in Cardenas, Cuba on December 11, 1939 to Jose and Margarita (Ojeda) Benavides and attended local schools. After finishing school there he managed a shipping office. When he was 27 years old he took his family and left his life in Cuba in search of freedom. He came to the United States were he was able to earn his citizenship, something he was very proud of.Jorge was employed for 41 years at Polartec (the former Malden Mills in Lawrence, MA.) He was a very hard worker and always put the needs of his family before his own. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband and father and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Teresa Benavides of Sanford; two sons, Jorges C. Benavides Jr. and his wife Mary of Sahuarita, Arizona and Francisco "Frank" Benavides of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; two brothers, Jose M. Benavides and Francisco J. Benavides, both of New Jersey and two grandsons, Benjamin and Jesse Benavides, both of Sahuarita, Arizona; many cousins, nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 21st at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
