John P. Wallace Sr.

Portland- John Philip Wallace Sr., 92, died Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough with his loving family by his side. John was born in Portland, Maine on July 31, 1922 the son of the late Patrick and Evelyn Dailliere Wallace. He attended Cheverus High School and also served his country in the United States Coast Guard serving in the South Pacific during World War II. On August 28, 1948, John married Margaret Theresa McFarland at Sacred Heart Church in Portland. Together they lived and raised their family in Portland. Following the war John worked for Railway Mail and then later for the United States Post Office from which he retired following 34 years of service. Following retirement he worked part time as a courier for Maine National Bank for another 10 years. John was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church where he served as an alter server, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the RCIA team. John was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Margaret Wallace; a sister Dorothy M. Loring and a brother William J. Wallace. He is survived by two daughters Patricia F. Wallace and Nancy H. Wallace both of Portland; a son John P. and his wife Linda Wallace of Scarborough; a sister Kathleen Meehan of South Portland; one brother James and his wife Madeline Wallace of South Portland; four granddaughters Meghan and her husband Andrew Langella of Portland, Ashley Wallace of Biddeford, Rachel and Mary Elizabeth Wallace of Scarborough; a great grandson Jameson Wallace Langella, along with many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to especially thank the staff of the Maine Veterans Home for their compassionate love and care over the past year for which they are most grateful. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 followed by a 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, corner of Mellen and Sherman, Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
