John A. Vaccaro, 69 years old of Sanford, ME died suddenly on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 in Sanford, ME.John was born on February 19, 1937 in Springvale, ME. He was the son of the late William J. and Vera E. (Mazza) Vaccaro Sr. John attended local schools, and was a graduate of Sanford High School. Following graduation John enlisted in the United States Air Force, and proudly served his country for four years until he was honorably discharged.John worked for many years at Adams Trucking, which later became Auclair Trucking, and L.V. Allen and Sons as a heavy equipment mechanic. The outdoors were a favorite of John's. He enjoyed fishing, camping, snow skiing, and water skiing. John also took great pride in restoring his Corvair and riding around town in it.John was a very hard worker, and a cancer survivor. He cared deeply for his family and loved spending time with them.Surviving is his wife of 42 years Sandra (Emerson) Vaccaro of Sanford, a daughter Melissa Vaccaro of Limerick, a son Glenn Vaccaro of Waterboro; three brothers, William J. Vaccaro Jr. of Sanford, Paul J. Vaccaro of Poland, ME, Thomas A. Vaccaro of Rochester, NH; three sisters, Elizabeth Jellerson of E. Lebanon, Barbara Allen of Sanford, and Catherine Vaccaro of Sanford. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Spc. Matthew Clayton proudly serving his country in South Korea, Jessica Clayton, Lacey Vaccaro, Chelsea Vaccaro, Tyler Vaccaro; his father and mother-in-law, Douglass and Irene Emerson of N. Berwick, brothers-in-law Thomas Emerson of CA, Wayne and Judy Emerson of Fl, and a dear friend Jim Knowles.Visiting hours for John will be held this Monday, August 14, 2006 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME; where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday the 15th of August at 11:00 AM.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
