John D.C. Sylvester

John D.C. Sylvester Jr., 83 years old, of Westbrook, ME, died Tuesday January 6, 2004 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.Mr. Sylvester was born on March 16, 1920, in Sanford, ME. He was the son of John Sr. and Amy Gibson Sylvester.Mr. Sylvester attended local schools, and graduated from Sanford H. S. For many years Mr. Sylvester worked at the Sanford Goodall Mills and Pioneer Plastics. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the occasional walk in the woods.Mr. Sylvester also served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, and held the offices of treasurer, secretary, and later superintendent of the Springvale Free Baptist Church. He also served as deacon for several years.Predeceasing Mr. Sylvester is his wife of 62 years, Virginia Pence Sylvester.Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Cutter Of Westbrook, JoAnne Clark of Sanford, and three grandchildren, Terrie, Paula, and Leona. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren.Committal services for Mr. Sylvester will take place in the spring of 2004 at Riverside Cemetery in Sanford.
