John Paul Poole Sr., 77, of Pleasant St. died December 29, 2003 at the New England Rehabilitation Center in Portland. He was born June 7, 1926 in Waco, Texas a son of Charles M. and Ludie (Williams) Poole. Mr. Poole served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. When John was a young man, he was employed as a supervisor of Brenlan & Rice, a frozen food packaging company in California. A self made man, Mr. Poole owned Poole's Welding and Auto Service in No. Carolina as well as being the chief mechanic for the County. Mr. Poole was a farmer and trucker. He and his wife, Beetye would drive together across country. Most recently, John worked at Tucker Chevrolet for 6 years, retiring in 1988.John was very proud of his Native American Heritage and was a member of the Lumbee Nation. He enjoyed the different Pow Wows he attended in Maine. He was a member of the V.F.W., AM Vets and the American Legion for over 20 years. He loved the ocean, tending his flower gardens, making moonshine, music, dancing and horse training. Mr. Poole enjoyed spending time with his special friends, Coelene Scott of Springdale, AR; Bob and Rita Allison of Springvale, Me and Al and Vicki Catruch of Skowhegan, Maine. Mr. Poole was predeceased by his wife, Bettye Joe (Waight) Poole and his son, Clifford D. Poole. He is survived by five daughters, Priscilla "Dixie" Morin of Springvale, ME; Paulette Poole, JoJo Poole, Candace Poole and Gayla Poole all of Springdale, AR; two sons, John Poole of North Carolina and Gregory Poole of Florida; a brother, Charles Poole of No. Carolina; two sisters, Thelma Collins and Cendaetta Stocks of California; a sister-in-law Joy Moody of Washington; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Jan 2nd. At 6 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, with Rev. Timothy Nadeau officiating.
