John Parent

John Parent, 87 years old, of Sanford, ME died Wednesday evening, March 23, 2005 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mr. Parent was born on April 29, 1917 in Sanford, ME. He was the son of Cyrille and Eliza Pelletier Parent. Mr. Parent attended local schools and served in the United States Army during WWII with the 36th Cavalry Squadron. Mr. Parent worked in area mills for several years before retiring from Sanford Junior High School as head custodian. For many years Mr. Parent was a scout leader for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts and the Sea Scouts. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and above all, dancing. He was a member of the Sanford Elks lodge, and was selected one year, along with his wife, as Maine's foster parents of the year. Surviving is his wife of 57 years Jacqueline (Houston) Parent of Sanford, a son John M. Parent of Sanford; four foster daughters, Florine Roberts of Alfred, Stephanie Butts of Manchester, NH, Bernice Chadwick of Sanford, Kathy Shute of Newfield; a foster son, Robert Sinclair of Sanford; two grandchildren, and many foster grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.A period of visitation for Mr. Parent will be held on Saturday, March 26th from 9 to 10:30 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM funeral service to be held at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, ME.
