John R. Gagne, Jr. 70, of Waterboro, Maine died suddenly March 7, 2004 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine. He was born September 28, 1933 in Lynn, Massachusetts a son of John and Agnes (Bourassa) Gagne, Sr. and was educated in local schools. Mr. Gagne served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Navy. He began a long and successful career with the Lynn Police Department. He worked in the finger printing and photography divisions and was in charge of the Vice Squad. Mr. Gagne retired after 20 years of dedicated service with the rank of Sergeant in 1975. Mr. Gagne co- owned Lynn Steel Boats and was a member of the Blue Knights - a motorcycle group that shared friendship and traveling together on trips through out New England. He was a long time member of the Lynn Volunteer Yacht Club and one of the founders of the Lynn Police Union. Mr. Gagne and his family enjoyed spending time up at their cottage in Maine. He and his wife Lucille, made Maine their full time residence in 1996 at Lake Sherburne in Waterboro. Mr. Gagne had the entrepreneurial spirit and co- owned and operated several restaurants in Laconia, NH such as the Blue Anchor, the Commodore and J J's. John loved salt water fishing and dragging for scallops. He played guitar and was an avid golfer. While in Maine, Mr. Gagne was a parishioner and an active volunteer with the food pantry and St. Matthew's Church in Limerick.Survivors include his wife, Lucille (Pelletier) Gagne of Waterboro, Maine and his son and wife: Kenneth and Karen Gagne of Newfield, ME and his daughter and husband, Cheryl and Paul Kontos of Limerick, ME. One grandson, Andrew L. Gagne of Greer, So. Carolina and one granddaughter, Stephanie A. Kontos of Limerick. His brother, Robert Gagne of Medford, MA and his sister, Joyce Gentleman of Lynn, MA. Also, several nieces and nephews.Two sisters, Lorraine Neylon and Phyllis LeBlance, predeceased him. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, 19 Dora Lane, Limerick, Maine with Rev. Richard Nadeau, celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St. Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101.
