John F. (Frank) Ford Sr. 83John F Ford Sr of Alfred, Maine and Zephyhills, Florida passed away July 4th,2005 at H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine.He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 10, 1922, the son of Mary Wetherbee Ford and Frank F. Ford Jr. In 1938 he moved to Alfred, Maine with parents, finished his schooling there. He also attended USM at Gorham.In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three and a half years overseas participating in the North African, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardenne campaigns being discharged in 1945 from Company I 290th Infantry Battalion.On May 3,1947 he married Margaret L. Thompson. They raised three sons together.He was a 55 year member and Past Master of Fraternal Lodge of Maine in Alfred, a life member of the Elks Lodge in Sanford Maine, American Legion Post #139 in Alfred, the VFW, Moose Lodge and Eagles in Zephyhills, Florida. He was a former member and Past Patron of Fern Chapter #139 in Alfred. He was also a former member of the Alfred Parish Church, Sanford High School Band Boosters and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.For 17 years he was a member of the Alfred Planning Board and for several seasons coached Little League Baseball with his brother in law Donald Thompson.John was employed by Goodall Mills in Sanford for several years and New Hampshire Public Service. He retired from the Portmouth Naval Shipyard after 28 years of service.John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Thompson) Ford, three sons, John F Ford Jr and his wife Pauline of South Berwick, Maine, Steven M. Ford and Heather of Springevale, Maine and Gary C Ford and his wife Susan of Sanford, Maine. Also by four grandchildren Jason, Meagan, Michelle and Katina Ford. He was a good and faithful son, husband, father and grandfather. We miss him.There will be no services. Interment will be at the convienence of the family.Our thanks go out to our wonderful neighbors and the nurses who cared for John at H.D. Goodall Hospital. We also wish to thank Doctors Rowden and Patel for their compassion during John's illness.
