John E. Dennison

COVENTRY, CT. - John E. Dennison, 79, of Coventry, CT., formerly of Portland, died July 26, 2011 following a short illness at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born August 25, 1931 in Portland, a son of Edward Emery and Lovanthia Cressey (Emmons) Dennison. He attended McClennan Elementary School and also attended Butler High School. John married Rosa J. (Lipp) on March 13, 1954 and began raising his family. He was a welder in the field of aviation. John was an avid chess player and enjoyed tinkering with anything that was electronic. He was predeceased by his father and mother, a sister, Hazel Dennison and a brother, Leo Dennison. Surviving are: a son, Thomas Dennison of Jacksonville, FL; a step-son, Michael Lipp of Neustadt, Coburg, Germany, three sisters, Betty McDonough, Roberta MacDonald, Gail Gray; brothers, Richard Dennison and Eddie Dennison. Visiting hours will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, with a 4:30 p.m. service, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Forest City Cemetery.
