  1. Gerri Stiles—I met Joan in Meditation class at the Cancer Community Center in South Portland. We also participated in their Friday morning card and game time where I soon learned Joan was a master at Rummikub. She even co-invented Crossword Rummikub with her dear KV friend Sandi.
Joan and I did two Road Scholars back to back in Florida and she led this small town girl on how to change buses and trains! She was such an inspiration to many us “youngens.”

  2. I met Joan at a bereavement group at the Cancer Community Center 20+ years ago. We got to be friends right away. We enjoyed many things in common from canoeing to courses at USM OLLI. We took trips together with our dear friends Dottie Clarke and Gerri Stiles.
Joan had a sharp mind, and a dry sense of humor. But what I admired most was her bull dog like determination. After a horrible fall, Joan fought her way back to recovery despite many road blocks and was able to return to her beloved Kaler Vail.
Joan was a dear friend and I and many others will miss her greatly.
I’m grateful that Joan was able to be where she wanted to be in the end and, to paraphrase Old Blue Eues,
    She did it her way.

  3. I’m not quite sure exactly when I met Joan, she has been part of my circle of friends for many years. She will be missed by many. A donation will be sent to KV in her memory.

  4. I met Joan, and her friend Carol MacDonald, through my mom, Dottie Clark. The 3 of them were like the 3 musketeers inspiring younger folks, like me, to keep on keeping on…never give up and keep moving. I loved them all and Carol and I are still in touch. I miss my mom, and now Joan…they were both a true inspiration to what life is all about…living!
She will be missed by all who knew her!

  5. So sorry to hear of Joans’ passing. I have known her for a long time and we played board games many times over the years. She will be greatly missed!
