Jim W. Bond

October 18, 1966 ~ December 25, 2025

Born in: Sanford, Maine
Resided in: Shapleigh, Maine

Jim William Bond, 10/18/66 – 12/25/25, passed away in the very early hours of Christmas morning peacefully in his sleep. Jim had a very recent diagnosis of a rare and fatal cancer. Jim and Nancy were preparing for this difficult fight but God decided to take Jim home on the birthday of our lord Jesus. He is now in heaven and cancer free.

Jimmy was born on October 18, 1966 in Sanford, Maine, the son of the late Calvert and Amanda (Pelletier) Bond. He grew up in Springvale, Maine and graduated in 1985 from Sanford High School. In high school Jimmy was a proud member of his high school band playing the drums. Also during his high school years he began his lifelong career as a volunteer firefighter starting with the Springvale call company, moving on to the Acton Fire Dept where he held many leadership roles including lieutenant, captain and most recently served as the President of the York County Firefighters Association and Board of Directors member. Jim could be found doing all things fire department from fundraisers, trainings, toys for tots and always first on the scene ready to serve. Jim and his crew of Acton and later Independent Fire made a strong presence at all Fire Conventions for the State of Maine. Participating in musters and all around fostering camaraderie with his fellow firefighters earning them quite the reputation through the years! Fire service was Jim’s true passion and his mission as a way to serve his beloved community.

In 1988 Jimmy started a 28-year career with the York County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer and later as a transport specialist. After retiring in 2016 he took his talents and commitment for law enforcement to serve as a Judicial Marshall for the State of Maine. Jim forged many wonderful friendships with his coworkers and those he protected through his respect, skills and incredible sense of humor. The York Judicial Building will not feel the same without his larger than life presence and strong work ethic.

Jim met his wife Nancy in 2002, fell in love, and they soon married and moved to Shapleigh where they built their dream home. The two, along with his son Cal, shared many wonderful years enjoying all seasons from their farmers porch with their basset hounds Rufus, Liberty, General, Sweetheart and most recently Finny. Their love of travel brought them on nearly 20 cruises and to almost every NASCAR track in the US, favorites being Vegas and Daytona. Jimmy also took special pride in his garage bar that has over 500 fire patches displayed from his travels. He would swap Maine patches with other fire and police depts. to add to his wall. Also on his wall were many photos from firefighting as he called the “Wall of Shame”. The Bonds hosted many 4th of July parties and family events through the years that hold special memories for many family and friends. Jimmy was a great host with his Hawaiian shirts, funny hats, Miller Lite beer and an occasional Cuban cigar.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years Nancy, his son and best friend Calvert Bond (Amanda), beloved grandson Walker Bond of Newfield, brothers Patrick Bond of Newfield and Richard Bond of Springvale, and sister Nancy Bond Rowland (Gary) of Rimrock, AZ, sister-in-law Susan Forkus of Bryant Pond, sister-in-law Christine Ganem of New Gloucester, and special friends Peter Smith and Mike Conway both of Acton, and many beloved nieces, nephews and many others too many to mention that will feel the incredible emptiness and quietness that remains with the passing of this truly great man, Jim William Bond.

Visiting hours will be held Friday January 9th from 4:30–7:30 at Black Heald and Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, Maine, followed by a small service Saturday January 10th at 1 p.m. for family and friends, followed by a fire/police procession to the Acton Fire Dept where a public service and celebration of life will be held.
