Dr. Jeffrey R. Proulx San Rafael, CA - Jeffrey R. Proulx, DVM, ACVECC , 39, died on August 26, 2004, at his home.He was born June 22, 1965, in Augsburg, Germany, the son of Richard R. and Sylvia (Drew) Proulx. He spent his early years in Chelmsford, MA and following the death of his biological mother, the family moved to Sanford, his father's home town.A 1983 graduate of Sanford High School and the University of Vermont in 1988, he pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. He graduated from Tufts University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. Dr. Proulx went on to specialize in the relatively new field of veterinary emergency and critical care, completing his internship at the Veterinary Institute of Trauma, Emergency and Critical Care at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, WI in 1995 and his residency in Emergency/ Critical Care Medicine at Tufts University School of Vet. Medicine in 1998.Dr. Proulx was certified a Diplomate in Emergency and Critical Care by the American College of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care. He worked at Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland OR and served on the ACVECC governing Board of Regents.In addition to lecturing internationally, he wrote a weekly column on topical veterinary issues for ANG Newspapers.In 2000, Dr. Proulx became Director of Veterinary Services at the San Francisco SPCA and later was appointed Project Leader for construction of its Leanne B. Roberts Medical Center.He was an accomplished photographer who loved to travel; an avid mountain biker, he enjoyed riding in the hills near his home, especially Mount Tamalpas.Dr. Proulx is survived by his parents, Richard and Evelyn, of Sanford; brothers, Michael Proulx of Epsom, NH, David Proulx, of Raleigh, NC, and Michael Bacon, Jr.; a sister, Carolyn Deshaies, both of Sanford; grandmothers Evelyn Drew of Lyndonville, VT and Dolores Berard of Sanford.A Gathering and Time of Remembrance will be held at Heald Family Center, 580 Main St., Springvale on Saturday, November 13; calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to:Tufts University - School of Veterinary Medicine "Critical Care Award in Memory of Dr. Jeffrey Proulx, V'93"200 Westboro RoadN.
