Jane M. MeskillJane Morgan Meskill was born on 1/29/27 in Philadelphia and died on 4/10/03 at home in Acton Maine. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Soverel of Acton, Maine and Margaret Ann Meskill of West Hartford, Connecticut; a son-in-law, James Soverel, of Acton, Maine, three grandchildren Nicholas, Katherine and Myles Soverel of Acton, Maine and a sister, Christina Probst of Union, Maine.Mrs. Meskill attended college at the University of Maryland and was one of few women to obtain a Masters degree from Columbia University in Brazilian Studies. She was married for sixteen years to John T. Meskill and lived several years with him in Formosa/Taiwan. While raising her children she lived and worked in New York City where she was a research editor for a monthly publication of aid projects in developing countries. Upon her retirement, she enrolled in the Peace Corps and was sent to Belize where she organized and enriched a local library. After the Corps, she returned to the States and settled in Maine with her eldest daughter and family. While in Maine she worked in the Unitarian Church, participated in a local literacy program and was an active participant in the local Democratic Party.Throughout her life she was an enthusiastic traveler, animal lover and reader. She cared deeply about the issues facing our world and followed local and world politics carefully. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, her community and her animals, Sunny, Ramon and Ichie. Her intellectual curiosity, social conscience, love of nature, laughter, and unique individualism touched many.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Planned Parenthood of Sanford, Maine (Please send c/o Susan Soverel, P.O.
