James T. Hill

James Truesdale Hill, Sr., 84, of Springvale, Maine passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2005. He was born in Glasgow Scotland on November 5, 1920 a son of James and Catherine (Truesdale) Hill. He married Dorothea Horne of Springvale on November 20, 1941.Jim graduated from Sanford High School in 1939. After High School, he worked in the Goodall-Sanford Mills until the beginning of WWII at which time he went to work in the South Portland Shipyards building Liberty ships. At the end of the war he returned to the Goodall-Sanford mills until their closing in 1954.The remainder of his working career was spent in aircraft manufacturing including Colonial Aircraft, Lake Aircraft and retiring from Aerofab Inc in 1987. For 36 years he was a member of the Springvale Fire Department and 45 years a member of the Springvale Masonic Lodge #190 AF & AM.He is predeceased by one granddaughter, Dorothea Catherine Hill.He is survived by wife of 63 years, Dorothea H. Hill of Springvale, daughter, Marjory and her husband Spencer Stonemetz of York, son, James T. II and wife Kaye Hill of Windham, daughter, Margaret and husband Ronald Vincent of Sanford, five grandchildren, Jennifer Cray of Portsmouth, NH, James Stonemetz of North Berwick, James T. III and wife Sarah Hill of Windham, Andrew James Vincent of Portland and Steven James Vincent of Lebanon, one greatgranddaughter Lydia Grace, one brother, Hugh Hill of south Paris and one sister, Mrs. Franklin (Frances) Libby of Alfred.Family and friends are invited to gather from 10am until time of the memorial service at 11am on Thursday, August 4 at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the "Town of Sanford for the Springvale Town Hall" c/o Faith Ballenger at Chamber of Commerce 917 Main Street, Suite B Sanford, Maine 04073.
