Acton, MaineJack Waddington, 89, of Acton Maine died Friday April 19, 2002 at The Goodall Hospital, Sanford.He was born in Springvale, ME., on October 11, 1912, he was the son of Will and Sarah Priestly Waddington and was a 1933 Graduate of Sanford High School. During his time at Sanford High, Jack was a star pitcher for the baseball team and also played tennis there. When he was younger, Jack was also involved with the Boy Scouts.During the war, Mr. Waddington worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He then worked for as a loom fixer for the Goodall Sanford Mills until their closing in 1955. From 1955 to 1965, he worked for The Former Great Falls Manufacturing in Rochester as well as various other area jobs. Mr. Waddington then worked 12 years for GTE in Waterboro until her retired in 1979.He was a member of The North Parish Congregational Church of Sanford and enjoyed the Monday Nighter's Club there.Mr. Waddington was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, tennis and bowling. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all, He was a very loyal Boston Red Sox fan.He played the guitar and enjoyed Lawrence Welk and country music.He is survived by his wife Gladys Gillings Waddington of Acton; sons Wayne Waddington of Englewood, Fl., and David Melvin Waddington of Acton; a daughter Sylvia Morrill of West Bloomfield, Michigan; brothers Ben Waddington of Springvale, and Norman Waddington of Kittery Point; a sister Doris Filed of Wells; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 27th at Heald Funeral home 580 Main Street, Springvale. The Rev. Carleton Gunn of the North Parish Church will officiate. If desired donations may be made in his memory to The North Parish Congregational Church 893 Main St., Sanford, ME. 04073.
