J. Woodrow Vallely, 85, of Sanford, ME died Monday July 29th at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford. Mr. Vallely was born on November 9, 1916 in Sanford, ME. He was the son of Charles and Alice Heelan Vallely. He attended St. Ignatius schools, and is a 1934 graduate of Sanford H. S. He also attended Farmington Normal School, and taught in Sanford elementary schools for 5 years until he was drafted in 1943. He then served his country with the 3rd Army Combat Engineers in northern France, and Central Europe until 1945. Upon his return to the States he furthered his education at the State College in Fitchburg, MA, and later graduated from Boston University Law School in 1950. He was admitted to the Maine Bar the same year and has been practicing law ever since.Mr. Vallely was also a member of the 97th Legislature from 1955-1956, Register of probate in York County from 1957-1981, a former town meeting member, a member of the Thomas Cole American Legion Post, the Sanford elks, where he was past exalted ruler and district deputy, and the Springvale, K of C.Predeceasing him are two sisters, Frances Amsler and Bernadine van Reuth.Surviving is his wife of 36 years Glenys Bowen Thayer Vallely of Sanford, a stepson Stephen Thayer of Springvale, a brother C. Daniel Vallely of California, three grandchildren, Megan Thayer, Mark Thayer, and Briane Lowry, and several nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday August 1 at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale. On Friday please meet the family for a 10:00 AM funeral Mass at the Notre Dame de Lourdes R. C. Church in Springvale.
