Heaven gained another angel, J. Bernadette "Bernie" Roy, 85, of Sanford, who passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Southridge Rehab & Living Center in Biddeford.
She was born on May 17, 1938, to Valmont and Alpaide (Marcotte) Roy in Sanford. Bernie attended local schools and graduated from St. Ignatius School as valedictorian of her class.
Her working life consisted of bookkeeping, secretary work and accident claims and processing. She was a dedicated and loving care-giver for her mother and brother for many years. Bernie enjoyed helping people, and most recently worked tirelessly at the Harmony Peer Support Center in Sanford.
Bernie was a very quiet person and kept to herself. She liked and participated in many sports. As a child, she could always be found on the ball field playing softball with her neighbors.
Bernadette was a devout Catholic and was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Sanford. Her faith was very important to her.
Bernie is predeceased by her parents, brother Donald Roy (2001), and sister Irene (Roy) Albert (2019), brother-in-law Maurice Bernier (1998) and nephew, Marc Bernier (1993).
Survivors include her sister Therese (Roy) Bernier of Sanford, brother-in-law John Albert of Rochester, NH; nieces Rachel of Wells; Michelle (Albert) Hall and her husband, Harley of Manchester, NH; Dianne (Albert) Lopez and her husband Steve of Dover, NH; and nephews, David Bernier and James Bernier of Sanford, Steven Albert and his wife, Hillary of Packwood, WA, as well as special friends Sue Simpson, Angie, Rick O'Connor, and several great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation is at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Homes, 580 Main St., Springvale, Maine, on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 9 – 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford, Maine at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow at Saint Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.
