Iris Gurney

Iris A. Gurney, 80, of Limerick, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at her daughter's home in Sanford.Iris was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 6, 1929 to Joseph and Mary (Steele) Yorston. Her family moved to the United States when she was two years old and she grew up in Waltham, MA, where she attended local schools. In 1956 she married Melvin Gurney and together they raised nine children. She moved to Saugus, MA in 1960 where she stayed until relocating to Limerick in 1985. Iris was a devout Catholic and born again believer. She was an active member of St. Matthew's Parish in Limerick where she had served as treasurer. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Iris was predeceased by her husband Melvin Gurney.Surviving are nine children, Richard Gurney of Limerick, Joanne Fitzpatrick of Sanford, Lauren Saragosa of Wilmington, MA, Gail Studnicka of New Lenox, IL, Christine Trulli of Denver, NC, Donna Maloney of Concord, NH, Brenda Gochie of Limerick, Glenn Gurney of Arundel and E. Douglas Gurney of Framingham, MA; two brothers, Robert Yorston of Waltham, MA and Richard Yorston of Marlboro, MA; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 5th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 6th at St. Matthew's Parish in Limerick.
