Irene C. Vezeau, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Irene was born on February 16, 1916 in Sanford, the daughter of Alex and Bella (Porrell) Couturier. She graduated from Sanford High School with honors in 1934 and soon met her beloved husband of 70 years, Ronald A. Vezeau. They were married on June 27, 1936, and raised two children at their home on Bennett Court in Sanford. Irene worked many years as a supervisor and instructor of seamstresses in the Sanford Dress Shop. She later worked as a receptionist for Dr. James Murray.Irene and Ronald were members of Holy Family Parish. She loved music and played the piano well into her 90s, entertaining family and friends at gatherings. In her later years, she and Ronald both resided at the Newton Center in Sanford, and family members are appreciative of the wonderful staff who cared for them.Irene was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, in 2006. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Couturier of Sunnyside, Washington; her son, Robert R. Vezeau and his wife, Sheila, of Barrington, NH; her daughter, Nancy A. Lincourt, and her husband, Robert, of Sanford; and her many grandchildren, including Susan Shain and her husband, Jeff, of Sanford; Sandra Butler and her husband Steven of Sanford; Steven Lincourt and his wife Ester, of Orlando, Florida; Stacey Morin and her husband Bradley of Sanford; Michael Vezeau of Arizona; Jeffrey Vezeau of Dover, New Hampshire; and Aaron Vezeau, of Farmington, New Hampshire. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Irene will be fondly remembered by her family for her contagious smile and good humor, and the way she brightened all of our lives whenever she was present. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Newton Center Activities Fund, 35 July Street, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
