Irene B. Levasseur, 91, of Sanford, died December 19 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a long illness.She was born in Haverhill, MA on December 3, 1921, the daughter of Elphege and Laura (Proulx) Bergeron. She came to Springvale as a child and attended Notre Dame School. When she was in her 60's, she earned her G.E.D. and when in her 80's she took a computer class with the Sanford Adult Ed and became quite proficient at the use of her home computer.A hairdresser for most of her career, she owned and operated Madamoiselle's Beauty Shop on Main Street in Sanford for many years. She also worked for several years in the Sanford High School cafeteria.She was a communicant of Holy Family Church, was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Sanford.Her husband, John M. Levasseur, died in 1999.Survivors include her son Mark Levasseur of Parsonsfield, son David Levasseur and his wife Kate of Portsmouth, NH, daughter Paula Birmingham and her husband Tom of Concord, NH, son Luke Levasseur and his wife Roxanne of Sanford, daughter Rachel Levasseur of Sanford, daughter Teresa Moriarty and her husband Richard of Sanford, brother Donald Bergeron of Holyoke, MA, sister Bernadette Bergeron of Las Vegas, NV, sister Therese Rickard of Louisville, KY, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM in St. Therse of Lisieux Parish at Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Heald Family Center, 574 Main Street, Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Waban Projects, 5 Dunaway Drive, Sanford, ME 04073.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
