Irabelle Staples Allen

Irabelle S. Allen, 84, of Bauneg Beg Hill Road, No. Berwick and formerly of Elm Street, Springvale, died June 8, 2004.She was born December 17, 1919 in Sanford, a daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Bucklin) Staples and graduated from Sanford High School. Irabelle married Ernest C. Allen and shared 51 years of marriage before his death, June 4, 1995. Mrs. Allen was a bookkeeper and helpmate in her husband's business, Ernest Allen Trucking. She loved living on the farm and being able to grow their own fruits and vegetables. It was a lot of work, but she relished in the fact she could freeze, can and store vegetables to eat throughout the winter months. She had two days a week where she would bake bread, and was well known for her pickles, cakes and apple pies. Many times, she fed the work crews that were around the garage. Irabelle had a soft spot for her animals, especially her dogs. Mr. and Mrs. Allen enjoyed camping up and down the East Coast and traveling to Florida. A spiritual and generous woman, Mrs. Allen was an active member of her church. Teaching Sunday school, being a member of the Gleaners and missionary council, Irabelle was a happy participate. She was a member of the Mousam Lake Grange, the Maine State Granges and the York Pomona. She held membership with the Order of Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter, Springvale. Mrs. Allen will long be remembered for her special card ministry - she made sure anyone that needed a birthday card or special pick me up note, received one. An avid reader, she enjoyed Christian books and Biographies. Survivors include her son: Richard Allen of Green Cove Springs, Florida and two daughters, Ernestine "Tina" Allen of Seminole, Fl and Linda Marx of No. Berwick. Also, 8 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Friday, June 11, 2004 at the Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church, Springvale at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Reeves, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.Calling hours will be Thursday, June 10th. From 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
