Hubert R. Essel
Hubert R. Essel, 96, of Lyman, passed away on Saturday June 29, 2013 at the Huntington Commons in Kennebunk. He was born in New Britain, CT, on August 15, 1916 a son of the late Henry and Anna Essel. A graduate of New Britain High School, he also graduated from Bentley College.He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. Following the war he was employed at the Sprague Steamship Company. He also worked as a comptroller at United Shoe Machinery in Boston and ended his career as a comptroller at Black and Decker in CT.He was an avid sports fan and to the end he loved the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots.Bert was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Casperson Essel, his sister, Lydia Davey and brother, Robert Essel, stepson, Wesley Duling.He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Essel, stepchildren, William Single and his wife, Irene, Gunnar Single and his wife, Veronica, Paula Squires and Ellen Vigil, step grandchildren, daughter in law, Jean Duling as well as his niece Maurine Lindquist and nephews, Ronald Davey, Norman Davey, Robert Davey and Robert Essel, several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:30PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
