Howard A. Chick, 80 years old of Lebanon, ME died early Wednesday morning January 15 at his home. Mr. Chick was born on September 9, 1922 in Lebanon, ME, the son of Everett and Beulah Trickey Chick. He was raised on the family farm and was a graduate of the Sanford H. S. class of 1940. In 1942 the U.S. Army drafted Howard where he was a member of the Army Air Corps. Even though he qualified as a marksman Mr. Chick served his time as an airplane mechanic and instructor. At the time of his discharge he held the rank of Corporal. Mr. Chick served 4 terms in the Maine House of Representatives for House District 6. He served on the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as well as on the Ethics Committee.A farmer by trade, Howard was a hunter, fisherman, registered Maine Guide and member of the Springvale Fish and Game Club. He worked for 40 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery before retiring.Howard was quite active with area organizations. He was the former chairman of the Lebanon Board of Selectmen, former chairman of the Lebanon School committee and MSAD 60 Board, past chairman of the Advisory Council of the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission. Howard was the past President of the Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs and Director of the York County Agricultural Association, which operates the Acton Fair.Predeceasing Howard is his wife Muriel and their son Howard A. Chick Jr.Surviving are his four daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Cleveland Welch of Lebanon, Sheila and William Tague of Wilmington, MA, Elaine and Linwood Dall of Shapleigh, and Adele and David Baldwin of Springvale. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson.
