Henry H. Porter Sr., 82, of Springvale, ME died Tuesday evening July 30, 2002 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Mr. Porter was born on April 7, 1920 at home in Springvale, ME. He was the son of Harry and Delvina Lessard Porter. Mr. Porter proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Upon his return from overseas he worked various jobs until beginning his career with the United States Postal Service. In 1978 he retired from the Springvale post office as Postmaster. He was past commander of the VFW, past Grand Knight of the Springvale Knights of Columbus, an active communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church of Springvale, where he often volunteered his time and helped out as assistant caretaker of the Notre Dame Cemetery. He also helped found the Notre dame Credit Union and the Springvale Social Club.In his free time Mr. Porter enjoyed a nice walk, working in his garden, and playing card games like cribbage and gin.Predeceasing him is his wife Lea LaCasse Porter and their two sons Vance and Henry Jr.Surviving is a daughter Viola Tunney of Portland, two sons, Lester and Judy Porter of Augusta, John and Ruth Porter of Springvale, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother George and Jeanne Porter of Sanford, and several nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will be held on Friday August 2nd from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday the 3rd at the Notre Dame de Lourdes R.C.
