Helen B. HickenHelen B. Hicken, 82 years old, of Alfred, ME died early Saturday morning June 7, 2003 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mrs. Hicken was born on March 9, 1921 in Alfred, ME. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Hall Bracy. She was a graduate of the Alfred High School and for many years worked as the Town of Alfred tax collector.Mrs. Hicken was a member of the Alfred Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir, and a member of the Alfred Historical Society.In her younger years Mrs. Hicken enjoyed camping with her family and searching for antique bottles. She was an excellent cook and gardener, and often took home the blue ribbon for her African Violets at the Acton Fair. On hot summer days her husband and her would drive to the beach and share a quiet moment with an ice cream cone in hand. Mrs. Hicken had an undying love for her family, and was especially fond of her loving grandchildren.Predeceasing her was her husband Harold R. Hicken in 1985.Surviving is a son Baron Hicken of Edison, NJ; two daughters, Sylvia Miller of Carlisle, KY, Nancy Campbell-Jones of Ypsilanti, MI; four grandchildren, Mark Hicken of Manhattan Beach, CA, Lorri A. Vandawalker of E. Syracuse, NY, Sara Cucuzza of Springvale, ME, and John Campbell of Hillsboro, NC. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Kurt, Gretchen, Briana, and Aiden.A period of visitation will be held on Monday June 9th from 6 to 8 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale, ME; where funeral services will be held on Tuesday the 10th at 12 PM.For those that desire memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
