Westbrook- Gwendolyn A. Nichols, 84, of Village Lane died Thursday, May 11, 2017 following a long illness. Gwendolyn was born in East Millinocket, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Madore) Willette. Early in her life she moved to the Portland area where she made her home and raised her children. Gwen worked her entire career as a waitress, with many loyal customers, who followed her not only for her great service and friendly smile, but because they enjoyed her sense of humor and hijinks. She was known as being a great prankster, joker, and teaser who always loved to raise "holy hell", she was always joking with customers, which is what they loved most about her. She worked at the Pagoda on Congress Street, where she waitressed for thirty five years. She ended her fifty five year career at the Olive Garden in South Portland. Although she was a hard worker her entire life, she enjoyed having fun and was usually the center of attention and the life of the party. Dancing and singing with her sister was her idea of a good time. She was a great mother who loved her children and grandchildren and was very proud of all of their accomplishments, she lived a good life. Gwen was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Driscoll; two brothers, Leroy and Joseph Willette. She is survived by a daughter, Karen and her husband Robert Dickinson of Westbrook; two sons, Michael Nichols of Salem, MA, and Christopher Piacentini of NJ; a brother, Kenneth Willette of TX; three grandchildren Adrienne Nichols, Ryan Nichols, and Kaileigh Nichols; a special nephew, Jay Adams of Germany, along with several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME. A service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 12:00pm. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
