Grace Marie Hammond

Sanford, MaineGrace Marie Hammond, 100, of North Berwick, Maine, died March 8, 2002 at Hillcrest Gardens in Sanford.She was born in North Berwick on December 27, 1901, she was the daughter of Butler and Rose (Allen) Hobbs, and attended schools there. Mrs. Hammond lived all of her life in North Berwick.She married Leroy Hammond in 1923.Mrs. Hammond received The Boston Post Cane as North Berwick's oldest resident.She was a 50 plus year member of the Bauney Beg Grange and a member of the York Pomona Grange.She enjoyed crochet and tatting.She is survived by her son James Hammond of Sanford; 6 grandsons and 11 great grandchildren.Mrs. Hammond was predeceased by her husband Leroy Hammond who died in 1977, her son Ansel Hammond who died in 1992 and her brother Malcolm Hobbs.Relatives and friends may call from 1:00 PM 2:00 PM on Monday at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main St., where a funeral will follow at 2:00 PM on Monday.
