Gloria E.A. Schwarz, 78, of Alfred, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Pinnacle Healthcare in Sanford. Born on May 28, 1945, to David and Florence (Lister) Lewis in Alfred, she grew up and resided in the town she called home for much of her life.
Gloria attended Sanford Schools and graduated from Sanford High School. As a young woman, she met and married Jerry Schwarz, and together they built a family of five children. After this chapter of her life, Gloria returned to southern Maine, to build a new life in a familiar place.
Throughout her life, Gloria was employed at various local establishments, leaving a lasting impact on those she served. From her role at Deering Restaurant to her time as a crossing guard and her many years at Marden's, Gloria was known for her friendliness and helpful nature. She had a big heart, always cooking and feeding people, always showing generosity and warmth.
Gloria's love extended beyond her immediate family; she had a genuine affection for people and was always willing to lend a hand. Her volunteer work at the Salvation Army's food pantry and at the Greenwood Center in the activities department marked her dedication to helping others. Gloria's commitment to community and her friendly demeanor left a positive mark on everyone she encountered.
She is predeceased by her husband Jerry Schwarz, two brothers Johnny and Gordon Lewis, and a son Paul Schwarz.
Survivors include a daughter Lisa McHugh of Brewer, sons Warren Schwarz of TX, David Schwarz of Springvale, daughter Tanya Turner and her husband Frederick of Alfred, a son Jack Schwarz of Springvale, grandchildren, Angela, Sierra, Ashley, Michael, Joshua, Amber, Madison and Kayleen, and 10 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all their friends and family for their kindness and support, including the staff at Pinnacle Healthcare for the incredible care of Gloria.

Rest in peace Gloria, it was my pleasure to know you. Denise
I met Gloria at Marden’s when I worked there. Then we got reacquainted being neighbors at Breary Farms. She was so wonderful to me. And yes, she was a great cook. Then I became her hairdresser for a short time before I retired. I loved how she lighted up when she saw me. I will miss Gloria. Denise
