Glenna Jean Goulet

glenna goulet

July 15, 1950 ~ October 17, 2026

South Portland – Glenna Jean (Gauvin) Goulet passed away October 17, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 15, 1950 in Rochester, NH, the daughter of Leo and Aline Gauvin of Somersworth, NH.

Glenna graduated from Somersworth High School in 1968 and began work as a secretary at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and moved to Maine in 1970 after marrying her high school sweetheart, Richard Leo Goulet. She was as a legal secretary before starting a family, after which she operated a cake decorating business in her home for 8 years, an Avon representative for over 25 years, achieving President’s Club, and ran a crafts business, Calico Creations, for over 20 years.

Glenna was very loving and generous with her time. She became known as “The Dessert Lady” for all the church suppers at St. John the Evangelist Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister, and St. Maximilian Kolbe Church for 29 years. She knitted hats, mittens and scarves for the homeless shelter in Portland, So. Portland schools, and Social Services. She made baby Afghans for a Portland agency that helped single mothers, crocheted full-sized American Flag Afghans, which were raffled with all proceeds going to various worthy causes, and donated lap Afghans to Togus Veteran’s Hospital. She often cooked holiday desserts for the Preble St. soup kitchen, and holiday dinners for the elderly who lived alone.

Glenna’s priority in life was family. She loved and was proud of her family, witnessed by spending 21 years writing a book, “Our Family”, for her sons and later started another one titled “Call Me Crazy”. She enjoyed writing humorous children’s books based on true stories about animals, and did all the illustrations herself.

Glenna enjoyed reading, writing, scrapbooking, craft works, doing crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, and loved to cook and bake for family, friends, neighbors, her church and the soup kitchen. She and husband, Dick, enjoyed spending time in the White Mountains of NH and going for walks along the beaches of Maine. They traveled to Alaska and Hawaii and to many of the great national parks, but their favorite vacation spot was Branson, Missouri.

Glenna is survived by her husband Dick, her 3 sons Brian and his wife Tara of Portland, David of Indiana, and Christopher of Portland; one brother Leonard Gauvin and his wife Marcie of Goffstown, NH, and several nieces and nephews.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Glenna was a wonderful friend and we text several times a day. We always knew what each other was doing. I considered her one of my best friends. She was so charitable with her knitting so many items for different agencies and schools. She was as fast as a knitting machine. The church suppers won’t be the same without her delicious desserts. She always saved me a couple of lemon squares. Glenna, we love and miss you.

    • We met Glenna through St. John and St. Max churches. She was always a happy and giving person. She exemplified the biblical verse, Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. We will hold onto the good memories and wish peace during this difficult time to Dick and his Family. May she RestinPeace🙏
