Gerard T. Morin, 83 years old, of Sanford, ME died Monday, April 10, 2006 in Sanford.Mr. Morin was born on July 8, 1922 in Sanford. He was the son of Victor and Annie (Beaudoin) Morin. Gerard attended the former Holy Family School, and graduated from Sanford High School with the class of 1941. Following graduation Gerard enlisted in the United States Navy, and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Coxswain. He served aboard the USS Santa Fe and during that period Gerard was honored by receiving the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal -14 Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Medal, and a Bronze Star.Upon his return to the States, Gerard worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until retiring from there in 1972. He also worked at the Goodall Sanford Mills as a loom fixer until its closing.Gerard was a lifetime member of the Sanford/Springvale Post 9935 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a past commander of Post 9935 from which he held numerous posts. Gerard was also a State of Maine Past Commander in 1972. He kept very active in the V.F.W., serving on many committees, such as the Voice of Democracy, Environmental, Legislative, and Youth Committees to name a few.Gerard was also a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge, the American legion, and the AmVets. Gerard was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church of Sanford, and a devoted husband and father.Gerard loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly tying, target shooting, and archery. He was a registered Maine Guide, and spent many years enjoying the Allagash Wilderness area.Predeceasing Gerard is his wife Lorraine (Demers) Morin, and their son David Morin.Surviving are two sons, Herbert Morin and his family, Debbie Tippett, Daniel Tippett, Dana Tippett, and Bryce Tippett, Michael Morin and his family Lynn Gray, Russell Gray, and Alex Gray, and a nephew Timmy Moran.Visiting hours for Gerard will be held this Thursday, April 13th from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford, ME. A 10:30 AM Libera service for Gerard will held at St. Ignatius Church on Friday the 14th.
