Gerard A. Legere

Gerard A. Legere, 77 years old, of Sanford, died Tuesday March 1, 2005 at H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mr. Legere was born on October 16, 1927 in Sanford. He was the son of Archille and Florida Cote Legere. He attended Sanford schools, and proudly served his country in the United States Army. For over 30 years Mr. Legere worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard retiring in 1986.Following retirement Mr. Legere and his wife Rita began traveling the United States and Europe. Mr. Legere had a great passion for the game of golf, and was always working to improve his game. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially hunting, and fishing. Mr. Legere was an honorable family man. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was very important to him, and nobody left his presence without a kiss, or hug expressing his love for them.Mr. Legere was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Sanford, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the V.F.W., and the Elks Lodge of Sanford.Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Rita Guillemette Legere of Sanford; three sons, Ronald Legere and his wife Janet of Sanford, Michael Legere and his wife Sandi of Sanford, and Steven Legere of Mesa, AZ. Also surviving are two brothers; Donald Legere of Florida, Maurice Legere of Sanford, a sister Rita O'Meara of Sanford; six grandchildren, Christine, Matthew, John, Mark, Nathan, and Erin, and three great grandchildren, Alex, Autumn, and Codie.A period of visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2005 from 5 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St. Sanford. A 9:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 5th at St. Ignatius Church in Sanford.
