RENTON, Wash. – Gerard Joseph Veroneau, 72, of Renton, Wash., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, after several years of health challenges.
Born on July 1, 1953, in Portland, Maine, Gerard was the oldest of 10 children of Ray and Peggy Veroneau. Always a fighter, he entered the world at just three pounds, and his parents never stopped being proud of him.
Upon completing his education at Cheverus High School, Gerard entered the workforce with determination and ambition. He married Kathleen (Joyce) Veroneau and together they built a beautiful family in Westbrook. Gerard’s professional career was defined by dedication and steady achievement. He began his banking career at Casco Bank & Trust Co., working his way from entry-level positions to senior management in IT — most notably playing a key role in the installation of the first ATM at the iconic One Monument Square branch in Portland. Committed to growth, he later earned his business degree from the University of Southern Maine, going on to further his career at Bank of Boston and ultimately Washington Mutual in Seattle, Wash.
Though the distance of the West Coast made visits difficult in his final years, the family takes great comfort in knowing that all four of his children were by his side during his last days.
Gerard is survived by his four children, Danielle Veroneau (David Berry) of Ireland, Elizabeth Maher of Scarborough, Matthew (Celeste) Veroneau of Gorham, and Kaitlin Hamilton of Scarborough. He leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren, Tadhg, Cillian, and Senan Berry; Ciara, Ava, and Saoirse Maher; Frank, Vincent, and Matteo Veroneau; and Ella and Harper Hamilton.
He is also survived by his siblings, Mary, Raymond, Anne (Peter) Rogers, Steve (Peggy), John (Carol), Susan (Michael) Russo, Vincent (Nancy), Eileen (James) Brown, and Patrick (Cynthia); and several nieces and nephews.
Gerard was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Margaret (Concannon) Veroneau, Sr.; and his beloved son-in-law, Larry Maher.
The family is deeply grateful for the strength and closeness of one another, as well as the support of many dear friends, during this time of grief. They hold close every joyful memory shared with Gerard. Rest easy, Gerard. We love you.
Gerard’s visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the new Conroy-Tully Walker Cremation, Funeral and Gathering Center, 300 Allen Avenue, Portland.
