Georgia R. Couture

Springvale, MaineGeorgia R. Couture, 83, of Springvale, Maine, died Tuesday November 12, 2002 at a local health care facility. She was born in East Waterboro, Maine on January 29, 1919 she was the tenth and youngest child of Rowland H. and Alice M. (Wentworth) Roberts.Georgia graduated from Waterboro High School in 1937 and Gorham Normal School in 1940, later receiving a degree from Gorham State Teacher's College and taking courses at The University of Maine. Her more than 25 years of teaching included positions in North Shapleigh, West Kennebunk, South San Francisco, Ca., and many years in Sanford, Maine retiring in 1977. Georgia married Robert C. Couture on September 5, 1942; they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.She was a member of the Free Baptist Church of East Waterboro and the Searchlight Club. She served as a Brownie leader when her daughters were young. She enjoyed her family, reading and crocheting. Besides her husband, Georgia is survived by two daughters: Carol Lee Bell and her husband Thomas of Burlington, ME; Gayle Chick and her husband Richard of Poland, ME. Also surviving are three grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Brian Bell, his wife Jody and children Michalah and Brendan of New York City; Nathan Bell of Washington, D.C.; Julie (Chick) Mastrianno and her husband David of Augusta, ME. In addition she leaves a sister Elizabeth Haig of Springfield, MA, a sister-in-law Florentine Roberts of Sanford, ME, and many nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be at Heald Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM & 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A funeral will be held at The Free Baptist Church in East Waterboro at 1:00 PM on Friday.
