South Portland - George Robert McLean “Papa,” 92, passed away on January 20, 2024, at his home in South Portland, of natural causes. He was born on June 18, 1931, in Yarmouth to Robert and Vesta McLean. He grew up in Yarmouth where he attended local schools and met the love of his life, Norma Gaudet. George, known for his love for his family, leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. A proud veteran, George served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1960, and later in the Air National Guards of Maine. His dedication and commitment to his country were unwavering. Throughout his career, George dedicated 38 years of service to the Harris Oil Company. His hard work and dedication were greatly valued by his colleagues. George enjoyed visiting his family in Florida, woodworking, and had a passion for race cars and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild. His meticulous craftsmanship and love for speed were evident in his hobbies. George will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and a role model to many. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was predeceased by his sons, John McLean and Ronald McLean; sisters, Myrte Goud, Mildred Brown, Beverly Fogg; and a brother, Harry McLean. George is survived by his beloved wife, Norma McLean; and their children, Donda Evans and husband Fredrick, George E. McLean and wife Karen, Lori Allen and husband Mike, Joan McLean; a sister, Eleanor Nason; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, and twins on-the-way. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A luncheon to be held during the Celebration of Life. Memorial contributions may be made in George R.
