Gayle Ann Martineau

March 17, 1958 ~ October 1, 2024
Resided in:
Sanford, Maine
On October 1st 2024, a red cardinal arrived to open the gates of heaven, to welcome our angel. My darling, wonderful wife of nearly 45 years has gone home to be with the Lord. Her battle with cancer lasted over a year and a half. She was 66 years young.
Gayle was born Gayle Ann Therrien in Sanford, Maine on Saint Patty’s Day, March 17th, 1958, the daughter of Lucille and Rolland Therrien. She attended school in Sanford, graduating from Sanford High in 1976. She worked at various places, including Microwave Associates, Computer Vision, Cabletron, Rochester, NH, Bass Warehouse in Sanford and The Seagull Motor Inn, in Wells, Maine. Gayle met her future husband, (Bob) in High School. The lord blessed her and her husband with a wonderful son Anthony.
Gayle was a very strong, caring, and common-sense person who loved gardening with her many flowers, enjoying the company of their golden retrievers and she loved her ocean. The ocean was her happy place, all the stress of the day would instantly evaporate once she was swimming in the ocean. Due to her love of the ocean and water, her husband nicknamed her Abigail the mermaid, and she nicknamed Bob, Ezra the Sea Captain.
Gayle was a wonderful wife, terrific mother, loving sister and a great cook. Once retired Gayle and Bob were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii, Mexico, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
She leaves behind her loving Husband Bob, son Anthony and Daughter in law Rebecca, sister Joyce Cyr, nephew Patrick Cyr, 2 nieces, Annie and Eliza Cyr.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Lucelle and Roland Therrien.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cat Tail Farms, no kill cat shelter, Safe Haven, PO Box 91, Wells ME 04090.
There will be a graveside service at St. Ignatius Cemetery on Friday Oct. 11th at 10am.
You brought such joy into my life. You are my sunshine. Your light will continue to burn bright in the memories of my mind.
This is by far one of the hardest things I have had to do. As the tears flow and my heart breaks all I can say to her precious family is we were so blessed to have Gayle in our lives. Thank you for sharing her with me. Till we meet again my dear friend xoxoxo
Gayle and I met in our freshman year of high school. We were in study hall and God put us together. We started talking and found we shared a love for horses and animals of all kinds. Our friendship grew from that day forward.
As her husband noted, Gayle was very intuitive.
The most loyal and loving person I have been blessed to call friend.
I love you and I feel you with me. I will never forget the day God put you in my life freshman year in study hall ❤️Till we meet again my dear friend I will hold my memories in a part of my heart reserved just for you.
Gail is married to my cousin.
I am so sorry for your loss Bobby and Tony.
I first met Gayle a long time ago when she lived on my street. Then later in life we both worked at Microwave Asso along with her aunt Rita and Computervision. Beside her outward beauty, Gayle was so very sweet and kind. She was just a genuine, peaceful soul that you instantly were comfortable with. I was so sad to hear the news and my condolences to her family and friends. Heaven truly has another angel. May you be at rest Gayle.
To Bob and your family, I will always remember Gayle as an incredibly beautiful person who always took the time to see how I was doing, infact, always doing. I will miss our chats and I will forever miss you my beautiful friend. Bob, I love you so very much and you will always be in my prayers and may the Lord continue to bless you and your family <3

Gayle and I grew up in the same neighborhood and we used to walk to school together. She was such a sweet soul and had a gleaming smile that shown her internal beauty!
Bob,
My deepest sympathies to you and Anthony. Words are never enough to heal the pain of losing your dearest and closest love. May the Love that you shared with Gayle help you through this difficult time, my friend.
Her favorite place, after her home, was Drake’s Island, a special hideaway point by Wells Harbor we had nicknamed Martineau’s Point.
Her family.
When she was in the sixth grade I wanted to impress her, I threw a football at her and almost broke her finger. Needless to say she wasn’t impressed.
I’m over it, she said that about almost everything. She would make a big pot of something, have once maybe twice and then say I’m over it.
I love you with all my heart, and you will always be in my heart until we are reunited.
Her inner as well as her outer beauty, her true honesty and her love of nature. She was also a great cook.
Cooking, her intuition about people and making me happy.
Honest straight forward personality and a common sense approach to most issues.
Gayle had a sincere love of nature, appreciated its true beauty. She truly loved her family and her home. Being a Pisces, water was her happy place. Honest, straight forward and a unique gift of perception and intuition.
Flower gardening, cooking and her birds, her two favorites were Cardinals and Hummingbirds. She loved the water, the beach was 1 of her happy places. In our younger years, Gayle loved to play tennis, we would play 3 to 4 times a week. I would get home from work, she had super ready and Gayle would say, ok Bob lets not dally, eat up, we have some tennis to play. Several years later, Gayle loved to cross country and downhill ski. And in the last few years she loved to promene and go antiquing.
One day, Gayle as a young mother, was, as most young mothers very busy, she put the mail on top of the car, placed Tony, who was about 1 in his car seat, got in the car and drove off. About 100 feet down the road, she noticed in the rear view mirror, papers were flying all over the road. Realizing she forgot to take the mail off the car roof, she stopped the car in the middle of the road, got out and picked up the mail. Went to get in the car, only to find out the doors were all locked with the car still running and Tony in the back seat. She quickly ran back to the house and realized the house was locked and she had locked the keys in the car. She did what she had to and broke into our house by breaking the cellar window to get in. She got our extra set of car keys and ran back to the car. Not a good way to start the day, but she did it and we had a good laugh, and Tony never knew what happened.
So very sorry to hear Gayle passed! Thoughts and prayers to Bob and family!!
Suzanne
