CAPE ELIZABETH - Gail F. Rice, 57, of Roundabout Lane, died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at her home after a two year battle with cancer. She was born June 17, 1957, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, a daughter of Toivo O. and Anna (Kuriger) Maki. She is predeceased by her parents. Gail graduated from Gardner High School in Massachusetts, class of 1975; received her Associate degree in office management from Westbrook College and her Bachelor of Science degree in linguistics from the University of Southern Maine and attended University of Maine in Orono, working towards a Master's degree. Gail recently retired from the Federal Government Judiciary Branch after 36 years working for Judges in the Appellate Courts in Portland and Boston. Gail was a founding member of the Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation. She was active in St. Alban's Church singing in the Choir and a member of the Alter Guild. Gail loved to ski and go for long walks and hikes. She was an accomplished knitter, loved gardening and an incredible cook. She was and amazing wife and mother. Gail touched the souls of many and will be forever in our hearts. She married Robert A. Rice III on August 20, 1977, at Christ Church in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years; two sons, Robert A. Rice IV of Charleston, South Carolina and Jonathan T. Rice of Cape Elizabeth and Los Angeles, California; a sister, Jane Caputi and her husband; and three brothers , Tom Maki , and Robert Maki and their wives all from Massachusetts and David Maki and his wife from California. She is also survived by her Mother in Law, June Rice, and brother and sister in laws, Elizabeth, Peter, Paul, John, Andrew, Margaret and their spouses as well as several nieces and nephews. A Service with Holy Eucharist will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
