Resided in: Newfield, Maine

Fred O. Robinson, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at his home in West Newfield, Maine. Born August 16, 1929, in Blaine, Maine, he was the son of Orren and Nedra (Collins) Robinson. He graduated in 1947 from Presque Isle High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball. Fred met his life-long sweetheart, Thelma R. Bartlett, while working at his uncle’s potato farm in Portage Maine. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and two years later he and Thelma married and went on to have four children. During his years of service, Fred was stationed abroad in Japan, England, and France. During this time, the family was able to tour many countries in Europe before returning to the United States where he served for several more years. He was the rank of Master Sergeant when he retired in 1968 after 20 years of service. After retiring, Fred spent his time perfecting the art of bird carving. Over a period of 28 years, he carved a variety of finely crafted birds for family and friends. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports, especially baseball. His favorite team was the Boston Red Sox. He would proudly tell of the times he spent with Ted Williams, who would often visit their home in Florida. Above all, Fred enjoyed a good laugh and always had plenty of corny jokes at the ready. Fred was a devoted husband to Thelma for 68 years until her passing in 2019. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Wellman and her husband Thomas of West Newfield, Maine, his daughter Sandra Burnet of Rye, New Hampshire, his sons Fred O. Robinson, Jr. of Meridian, Idaho and Christopher Robinson, of West Newfield, Maine, his three grandchildren, Jessie Lilly and her husband Darrell of North Yarmouth, Maine, Wendy Steadman and her husband Drew of Rye, New Hampshire, and Kelly Luterman and her husband Josh of St. Louis, Missouri, and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Campbell Steadman. A private graveside service will be held on October 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale, Maine. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Down Syndrome Advocacy Project of Maine. Online donations can be made at https://dsapmaine.org/give. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. How do you say goodbye to someone very special? I know it will be difficult to do, especially when you have not seen him for years…. but great memories remain and will forever be remembered.

I will always remember him as a very welcoming, funny, caring, and loving patriarch of the Robinson family, which I had the opportunity to be accepted for some time. My memories of him will always be fun — always telling funny stories and jokes. He is very caring and doting father, especially to Christopher, and of course also to the rest of the family.

I have always admired his talent on woodcarvings of various ducks and birds — finished with delicate etching of their soft-like feathers and painted realistic vibrant colors. A real talent, indeed! I am so lucky and thankful to have been gifted with two of those precious wood carved ducks which I have loved and will forever treasure. They will be a reminder of him, his talent, his thoughtfulness and mostly his love.

Goodbye to a very special man I fondly call ‘Dad’. Rest in peace and may you and ‘Mom’ Thelma continue your love story in heaven! You both will be in my prayers and in my heart eternally!
