Sanford, MaineFrank R. Butler, 76, of River St died at his residence on Saturday, April 7, 2001. He was born on December 29, 1924 in Sardina New York, the son of Nathaniel and Stella Butler.He moved to Lebanon, Maine with his family as a young child, later moving to Sanford, Maine with them where he attended school.Mr. Butler worked in the former Goodall Woolen Mills in Sanford before enlisting in the Navy during World War II. He served as a Motor Machinist's Mate on board the destroyer escort ship, USS Elden. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a lease operator for the O'Boyle Tank Lines with his brother, Dennis out of Washington D.C. He also worked as a driver for Giant Foods in Maryland. He returned to Sanford in 1967 where he worked as a carpenter, before working for his brother, Myron, at Butler Oil Co. and then working for Down East Energy Co. until his retirement in 1980.Mr. Butler enjoyed completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. When the weather was warm, he would be seen working in his yard and offering a friendly wave to those passing by. He was an amazing handy man and loved by all.Mr. Butler was predeceased by his father Nathaniel, his mother Stella, his Stepfather George B. Hunt, and two brothers Arthur and Dennis Butler.He is survived by his former wife Pauline E. Butler of Sanford, Maine; one son Steven D. Butler of Sanford and his fiancee Sandy Lincourt also of Sanford; two daughters Deborah E. Butler of Sanford, Maine; and Christine E. Barnes of Middleton PA; one brother Myron A. Butler of Sanford, MaineOne twin sister Ruth B. Rodgers of Sanford, Maine; three Grandchildren,Tiffany L. Barnes and Nikki L. Barnes of Middleton, PA and Erika L. Butler of Sanford, Maine. A niece Patricia Butler and two nephews Fred and Robert Butler.Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2001. A memorial Service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main St. Springvale, Maine. In lieu of flowers memorial contributitions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) 1 Hutchinson St. Sanford, Maine 04073. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick.
