Frances Sayward Dudgeon Alfred, ME Frances S. Dudgeon, 78 years old, of Alfred, ME, died Friday, January 27, 2006 at Southridge Nursing Home in Biddeford, ME following several years of declining health. Frances was born on February 5, 1927 in Newton, MA. She was the daughter of Warren and Esther (Morey) Sayward. At a young age she moved to Maine, and was a 1944 graduate of Cony High School in Augusta. She then moved to southern Maine and was employed as a receptionist at the former Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills until their closing in 1953. From 1962 to 1982, along with her late husband Samuel R. Dudgeon, she operated Sanford Sales Room and Carpet Center. She then joined Coastal Decorating in Kennebunk and worked as an interior decorator until her retirement in 1992. She studied decorative tray painting and stenciling. During her career as a decorator, she was instrumental in the interior decorating of many commercial and finer residential properties in Sanford-Springvale and the surrounding communities. Frances was a former Worthy Matron and life member since 1945 of the Fern Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Alfred, ME. She was active in the Alfred Parish Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was also active in the North Parish Congregational Church of Sanford for many years.She is survived by two daughters, Anne D. Holcomb of Blue Lake, CA, Elizabeth S. Dudgeon of Sanford, ME; four grandchildren, Amy Johnson of Arcata, CA, Gabe Waterhouse and his wife Teri of Korbel, CA, Christopher Knight of Sanford, ME, Timothy Knight of Portland, ME; two step-grandsons Edgar Holcomb of Union City, NJ and Sven Holcomb of Santa Barbara, CA; four great-grandchildren, Johanna and Zachariah Johnson, and Ella and Noah Waterhouse. Also surviving is a sister Dorothy Bougie of Alfred, and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours and a funeral service for Frances will be held at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME. Visiting hours will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, January 30th. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 31st.
