Evelyn M. Phelan

SanfordEvelyn M. Phelan, 98, of Sanford died early Sunday morning December 16, 2001 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Mrs. Phelan was born on July 29, 1903 in Vassalboro, ME. She was the daughter of Clarence and Mabel Gardner.Mrs. Phelan was educated in Augusta and moved to Sanford in 1928. She began a career in the culinary arts and was hired as the very first cook for the H. D. Godall Hospital working there for over 32 years. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, the Sanford Senior Center, and 50/50 Club.Her husband James predeceased her.Surviving are several nieces and nephews.At Mrs. Phelans' request services will be private.
