Evelyn M. Dixon, 87, a resident of the Sanford Health Care Facility for the past 5 years, died Wednesday evening. She was born December 30, 1916 in Boston, MA, the daughter of Fredrick and Catherine Crotty Every.Mrs. Dixon moved to West Newfield, ME after her husband of 37 years, Warren Dixon, died in 1991, and resided with her daughter. She formerly lived in Randolph, MA from 1954 to 1991.Evelyn attended Girl's Latin High School in Boston. She managed Howard Johnson restaurants in Canton and Brookline, MA for 18 years. She also managed Karen's Restaurant in Mattapan, MA for 18 years, retiring in 1984 at the age of 68.She was active in the Randolph Democratic Town Committee for many years and assisted in campaigning for Congressman Jimmy Burke and Ted Kennedy.Evelyn was often referred to as the "mayor of Sanford Health Care." She loved to greet everyone who walked through the doors of the facility. If it was a new resident, she quickly informed them of the bingo game being held later in the week. She was a joy to all and her smile was as big as her heart. She was always caring for everyone and will be greatly missed by her family at Sanford Health Care.She leaves behind her only daughter, Patricia Ann Carter Adams and son-in-law, Brian Adams, both of Sanford. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Debbie Gilpatrick of West Newfield, ME, Wendy Brown of Sanbornville, NH, William Carter, Jr. of East Bridgewater, MA and Chuck Carter of Lebanon, ME. Four nieces from Massachusetts also survive, Daryl Every, Allyson Every, Victoria Every and Robin Every, and 8 great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Monday, April 28, 2003 at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. The Rev. Jim McAtee, pastor of Curtis Lake Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Hood Cemetery, Brookline, MA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Sanford Health Care Activity Fund in memory of Evelyn Dixon.
