Evard "Bunky" Marchant, 70 years old, of Newfield died early Thursday morning July 10, 2003 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Bunky was born on October 20, 1932 in Melrose, MA. He was the son of George and Mildred Ayscough Marchant. It was in Melrose that he attended schools. Bunky served as a P.F.C in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1954. For many years he worked at his fathers Amoco Gas station, and later opened his own Mobil station prior to working at Stride Rite Shoe in Boston until his retirement in 1981.After visiting Maine for several years, Bunky, along with his wife moved to Newfield in 1997. Bunky was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Historical Society of Newfield, and served on the Newfield appeals board. He also worked locally at the Newfield recycling center.Predeceasing him is a brother George Marchant III.Surviving is wife of 49 years Barbara Swallow Marchant of Newfield; sons, Peter of W. Newfield, Paul of Melrose, MA, Douglas of Springvale; sisters, Janice Martel of Tewksbury, MA, Lois Broderick of Lititz, PA, Sheila Clegg of Nashua, NH, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will be held on Saturday July 12, 2003 from 8 to 10 AM at the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale, ME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mathews R.C.
