Eugene "Tuck" Kincaid Gerry, 80, of Springvale, formerly of Shapleigh, died on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Greenwood Center in Sanford.Tuck was born in Sanford on August 14, 1930 to Irving and Margaret (McFarland) Gerry and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1948. He was a talented athlete in school. He was quarterback of the high school football team. This is where he earned the nickname Tuck which he carried with him throughout his life. He also played baseball in high school. He continued playing baseball for a semipro team when he got out of the service. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and then served in the Naval Reserves after completing his enlistment. In 1954 he married Rita Gagne and together they raised three children. Tuck drove trucks most of his life. He started out working for Emery Oils where he learned his trade. He then went on to work for Adams Trucking, McLean Trucking and Genest Concrete. He retired in 1987 due to declining health. Tuck was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved cheering for the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion. Tuck spent a lot of time at the YMCA and made it a point to work out five days a week for many years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and spending time at his home on Mousam Lake. Family was always very important to him, he especially liked spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Tuck was predeceased by his wife in 2007 and by his sister, Emily Gerry Palmer in 1979. Surviving are three children, Terilee Gerry of Shapleigh, Craig Gerry of Springvale, and Karen Gerry of Alexandria, VA; five grandchildren; three great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 10th at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford. Arrangements are under the direction of Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home in Sanford.
